The shape of the cosmos.
The oracle you have consulted rests upon a worldview older than the pyramids themselves. Four ideas form its frame.
Nu — The Primordial Waters
Before time, before light, there was Nu — the formless, infinite ocean. From its still surface the first mound rose, and upon that mound the creator-principle Atum-Ra spoke creation into being.
The Ennead and the Ogdoad
Two great families of Neters structure the cosmos. The Ogdoad of Hermopolis names the eight forces of pre-creation — water, darkness, hidden depth and infinity. The Ennead of Heliopolis names the nine principles that arose from them: Atum, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut, Asar, Auset, Set and Nebt-Het.
Duat — The Hidden Realm
Below the visible world runs the Duat, the river of night through which Ra travels each evening. It is the country of dream, of judgment, of the heart weighed against the feather of Ma'at. To know the Duat is to know oneself.
Ma'at — The Balance
Ma'at is the order that holds all things — truth, justice, the rightness of season following season. To live in Ma'at is to live in alignment with the cosmos; to violate her is to invite the chaos of Isfet.
